Alfie began playing soccer in 1979 when he was a young player for Bryne Fotballklubb, where he played as a right-back and midfielder. In 1989, he moved up to the senior team and played there for four years before transferring to Nottingham Forest. During his time at Nottingham, he played in 75 league matches and scored seven goals.
In July 1997, Alfie Haaland joined Leeds United, and he debuted against Arsenal on August 9th. In September, during a match against Manchester United, Haaland’s play led to Roy Keane’s injury. Haaland criticized Keane, who was later stretchered off. Haaland was booked for this incident. He scored a goal in a match against Liverpool on December 26, 1997. Haaland was a versatile player, used in both midfield and defense during his time at Leeds United, where the team reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in the 1999-2000 season and qualified for the Champions League.
