Erling Haaland’s family really loves sports. His mom and dad both did sports, and they give him helpful advice and cheer him on.

Erling Haaland’s dad, Alfie, played in the top leagues for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, and Manchester City. Erling was born when his dad was at Leeds United. Alfie Haaland represented Norway 34 times and had a great career.

Alfie began playing soccer in 1979 when he was a young player for Bryne Fotballklubb, where he played as a right-back and midfielder. In 1989, he moved up to the senior team and played there for four years before transferring to Nottingham Forest. During his time at Nottingham, he played in 75 league matches and scored seven goals.

In July 1997, Alfie Haaland joined Leeds United, and he debuted against Arsenal on August 9th. In September, during a match against Manchester United, Haaland’s play led to Roy Keane’s injury. Haaland criticized Keane, who was later stretchered off. Haaland was booked for this incident. He scored a goal in a match against Liverpool on December 26, 1997. Haaland was a versatile player, used in both midfield and defense during his time at Leeds United, where the team reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in the 1999-2000 season and qualified for the Champions League.

In 2000, Alfie Haaland left Leeds for Manchester City for £2.5 million. In April 2001, during a match against Manchester United, Roy Keane tackled Alfie, resulting in a red card. Keane was fined £5,000 and banned for three matches. Alfie later revealed that he had ongoing knee problems and played despite them. He had surgery but struggled to recover fully and retired in July 2003. Manchester City had the option to terminate his contract due to medical conditions. Legal action against Keane was considered but dropped after reviewing medical advice in February 2003.

Alfie Haaland debuted for Norway in 1994, playing in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He had 34 caps and his last game was in April 2001. He’s one of the rare players to represent Norway without playing in the top domestic league.

Alfie returned from retirement after eight years to join the Bryne-based team Rosseland BK in the Norwegian Third Division in August 2011. He retired for good in 2013.

Erling Haaland’s mom, Gry Marita Braut, used to do heptathlon, which involves seven track and field events for women. Her knowledge in heptathlon likely influenced Erling’s natural talent for sports. Haaland’s family background has definitely had a big impact on his soccer career, as both his parents passed on their athletic abilities and gave him valuable advice throughout his journey.
