Patrick Mahomes is a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League. He joined them in 2017 as the tenth choice in the NFL draft.

Early life and career

Mahomes was born in Texas in 1995. His dad played baseball. Mahomes went to a Texas high school where he played football, baseball, and basketball. He practiced a lot and got better at being a quarterback. Mahomes was good at football and got attention from some colleges. He chose Texas Tech. He was also good at baseball, but he didn’t sign with a baseball team because he wanted to play college football.
Patrick Mahomes was a three-star football recruit ranked 12th among dual-threat quarterbacks. He committed to Texas Tech University and set records during his college career. In 2015, he threw for 4,653 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, leading the Big 12 Conference. In 2016, he set numerous records in a high-scoring game. He finished his college career with impressive stats, earning awards including the Sammy Baugh Trophy and Academic All-America honors.
Mahomes declared for the 2017 NFL Draft after his college career, with a strong draft projection. He impressed at the Combine with a 60 mph pass, tied for the fastest recorded. He was a top-ranked quarterback prospect by various sources. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select him 10th overall, making him their first first-round quarterback pick since 1983.
Mahomes backed up Alex Smith in his rookie year, then became the Chiefs’ starter in 2018, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, a historic feat.
