Wardell Stephen “Dell” Curry was born on June 25, 1964. He used to play professional basketball in the NBA. He was an NBA player from 1986 to 2002 and stopped playing basketball as the top scorer (9,839 points) and the leader in three-pointers (929) for the Charlotte Hornets. Curry was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and played basketball at Virginia Tech for four years. In 1986, his senior year, he was named the best player in the Metro Conference. During his college days, he was known for his accurate long-range shooting, even though there was no three-point line in NCAA basketball until the 1986-87 season.

His sons, Steph and Seth, also inherited his sharpshooting skills. Besides basketball, Curry played baseball for Virginia Tech. In the 1985 MLB draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the 14th round, but he chose to continue his basketball career. He had an impressive college basketball career with 2,389 points (second highest all-time) and 295 steals (all-time leader). In baseball, he achieved a 6–1 record with a 3.81 ERA. In 1996, his first year of eligibility, he was honored with induction into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1986, during the NBA draft, Curry got picked as the 15th overall player by the Utah Jazz. He played with them for one season, and in 1987, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He stayed with the Cavaliers for the 1987–88 season. Then, in the 1988–89 season, the Charlotte Hornets, one of the NBA’s two new teams, chose him in an expansion draft after the Cavaliers made him available. Curry played with the Hornets for 10 seasons, often coming off the bench to provide quick scoring with his three-point shooting.

He was named the Sixth Man of the Year in the 1993-94 season. He used to hold many of the franchise’s all-time records in points, games played, three-pointers made and attempted, and three-point shooting percentage. After that, Curry played one season with the Milwaukee Bucks, and he spent his last three seasons with the Toronto Raptors. His career averages were 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. When he retired, he had scored 9,839 points, making him the all-time leading scorer for the Hornets. Currently, Curry works as a commentator on Charlotte Hornets TV broadcasts.
